Republicans, now the Tea party hijackers, true colors are now coming out. Todd Akin solidly represents what the Republican party now stands for, and they are trying to hide it. They want him out. They are willing to sacrifice the chance at a senate seat to do it. They are eating their own young. Why?
The American Public really needs to ask some hard questions around this.
This is really nothing more outrageous than what Jerry Falwell or any number of Radical Right Republicans have said before. Face it, the Republican Right has never accepted any kind of rights for women. Whether it is Choice, Medical care, pay equality, or the right to vote.
The Republicans just came out with their political platform for the National Convention. Front and center it eliminates a Women’s right of self determination of her own reproductive health care in the form of the “Human Life Amendment”.
Here is the key phrase:
‘Faithful to the ‘self-evident’ truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed’
So all we have to do to politically sanctify removing anyones rights in America is mention the Founding Fathers, the Declaration of Independence, or the Constitution, in the same passages and that makes it OK. So when Congressman
Akin comes out with the phrase "LEGITIMATE RAPE", he is really representing the current mainstream of the Republican(Read; Tea Party) Philosohpy. How about we just cut to the chase and define the real original intent of these fine founding documents and the Men that created them; Women, Black people and poor people cannot vote and have no say in society! This is what our imperfect forefathers formed in this imperfect Union. It took hundreds of thousands of deaths in a Civil War to try and make this a more perfect Democracy, but still it left out women for another 55 years.
The Human Life Amendment that the Radical Republicans in their platform are pushing makes no mention of Rape in the context of eliminating a Woman’s Choice over her own body. So if you are Raped ladies, tough. You are going to have a child that will traumatize you each time you look at it. They are trying to turn the clock back to 1920 when women really had no say in their lives or society.
Getting back to their need to get rid of Scott Akin. He just said in bare, unobstructed language what the Radical Republican Platform is saying: Women you have no say and no rights. Your body does not belong to you and you after all are just a sexual object in a mans world. You don’t have to just listen to me, take a page out of the Republican agenda in the United States Senate. Remember the Frankin amendment?
The Frankin Amendment was added by now Senator Frankin from the state of Minnesota to the Defense appropriations bill. This said that Women who are raped, gang raped and otherwise sexually harassed could sue in Federal Court. This seems like it was already plausible but, not if you worked for KBR or Haliburton corporations and any of a half dozen other overseas Defense contractors. They had as part of the contract to work for them and make exorbitant salaries, the clause that you could not sue them for any kind of sexual misconduct while under there employ. WOW! Really? So there came about several cases of gang rape by fellow employees in these corporations, particularly Halibuton, of women and these woman had no legal recourse. So Senator Frankin thought this was not right that the American Government would spend its money with corporations that promoted the gang rape of its employees. It is astonishing that 30 Senators would vote in favor of corporations allowing their female employees to be gang raped with no legal recourse. Here are the Senators that think GANG RAPE is acceptable:
Alexander (R-TN)
Barrasso (R-WY)
Bond (R-MO)
Brownback (R-KS)
Bunning (R-KY)
Burr (R-NC)
Chambliss (R-GA)
Coburn (R-OK)
Cochran (R-MS)
Corker (R-TN)
Cornyn (R-TX)
Crapo (R-ID)
DeMint (R-SC)
Ensign (R-NV)
Enzi (R-WY)
Graham (R-SC)
Gregg (R-NH)
Inhofe (R-OK)
Isakson (R-GA)
Johanns (R-NE)
Kyl (R-AZ)
McCain (R-AZ)
McConnell (R-KY)
Risch (R-ID)
Roberts (R-KS)
Sessions (R-AL)
Shelby (R-AL)
Thune (R-SD)
Vitter (R-LA)
Wicker (R-MS)
All of these Senators were embarrassed by their vote. They had real trouble justifying it to even their very conservative constituency, which brings us back to our Tea Party friends. These Senators voted for no regulation, a Tea Party golden rule. They voted for no government involvement, a Tea Party golden rule. They voted for Corporations’ to have a free hand in dealing with employees, no collective bargaining, no unions, no legal recourse to employment disputes, a Tea Party golden rule.
Following these golden rules of the Tea Party platform, which is embedded now in the Republican National platform in parts like the Human Life Amendment, creates an environment of chaos where Gang Rape and sexual harassment flourish, because THERE ARE NO RULES. These golden rules sound nice because you individually are ‘given back’ all these rights the government has supposedly ‘taken away’ from you. We collectively forget that it is the government that levels the playing field of rights in society through the courts, laws and regulations. Otherwise, Corporate moguls like Rupert Murdoch, the Koch brothers, Mitt Romney, and others can pay less taxes, and have more say in a society than the average citizen and get their way over the rights of most other individuals in society. This is not EQUALITY, which is a word also found in the constitution. All men(and women) are created EQUAL, which is a word found in the Declaration of Independence.
If we follow the Tea Party golden rules, we will live in a country of chaos, of NO RULES.
